Trixie - A722849 - German Shepherd Mix

Trixie is a 7 month old german shepherd mix. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 8/7/07.

Trixie was the last puppy I took out. I was about to leave and she kept barking and barking and barking. I had to take her, and I am so glad I did. What a beautiful little girl. She walked by my side with no problems. She was a little skiddish when she heard a loud bang but she's still probably trying to get use to her surroundings.

This little girl is a gem!!

Biscuit - A722668 - Pit Bull

Biscuit is a one year and six month old pit bull. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 8/6/07.

Biscuit was the first dog I took out today. She was very active. She did her business and then wanted to play. She jumped at the leash and started to pull and play tug-of-war. In 85 degree weather with no shade..... I don't think so... Do you know how challenging it is to get a pittie to stop playing tug-o-war? Very.. Usually what I do is ignore and not pull. If I don't pull, then there's no game. Most of the time they just start playing themselves and shaking the leash to death. Ha, Ha :)

Needless to say, she was so into playing that I couldn't get any photos of her. So later I saw her with another volunteer. "Hey," I said, "Why is Biscuit so calm with you and she was so playful and energetic with me?" Goes to show you that it's all about energy. Maybe she thought I was her equal... I don't know.. it's too complicated to figure out. I'm just glad I got some shots of her so you can see how beautiful she is.

Coco - A722066 - German Shepherd Mix

Coco is a one year old german shepherd mix. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 8/2/07.

Coco was sooooooo easy to be with. The minute I got her out of the cage she stood by my side and waited for me to walk. Thank goodness!! What a pleasure. Coco is very docile and calm. She likes to keep going though. When I would sit down, she would wait there looking at me as if to say, "Whenever you're ready...today would be nice." ha, ha!!

Chris - A722466 - Pit Bull

Update - 10/19/07 - Chris is still there. I'm shocked! His owners gave him up because he has "Possible Mange." My God.... no comment! He didn't have his nose so much in the ground this time. Still a dominate dog and still walks nicely by your side. He's not crazy about puddles either. He would make it a point to jump over every one that he came across :) For a dog that has been at the shelter for 2 months, he's doing very well. The staff are doing a good job of taking care of him :)

------------
Chris ia a 2 year old pit bull. He has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 8/5/07.

Chris is beautiful dog. I would say, 99% of the time his nose was in the ground, that 1% he paid attention to me :) Be still my heart!! ha, ha.

Anyway, surprisingly he walked so easily by my side. He didn't pull or anything, but... when he found an interesting puddle of pee, watch out, he wasn't going anywhere. I couldn't pry him away to save my life. What's in dog pee that's so fascinating??? HMMM :)

Chris would love to find his forever home today.

Georgia - A722723 - Labrador / German Shepherd Mix

Georgia is an eight month old labrador / german shepherd mix. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 8/7/07.

Boy, what an energetic little pup. The minute I took her out she ran for dear life. Wow!!! When we got outside, she kept going. You know, if it were just a little bit cooler I wouldn't have minded so much, but in 85 degree weather???? Anyway, I still enjoyed myself. Eventually, and I mean eventually, she calmed down. When she did get all that pinned up energy out, she was much calmer and walked somewhat by my side. What a sweetie!!

Georgia is looking for her forever home!

Mel - A722665 - Pit Bull

Mel is a two year old pit bull. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 8/6/07.

Mel loves to play with other dogs. It's unfortunate we can't let the dogs play. They can give each other colds. Everytime she saw another dog, her ears would perk, tail would wag and she'd go into her play bow.

She does listen. She seems to cower down though. It could be her former owners hit her, not sure. She also seems to be losing her hair in some spots, could be stress. Poor thing.. but you know, you would never know, she's very energetic and loves life.

Rusty - A722162 - Pit Bull

Rusty is an eight month old pit bull. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 8/3/07.

Rusty is so cute. One of her ears points up, and the other points down. She is a precious playful little pittie. She gave me a run for my money. Well... you know what I mean. Have you ever been with a pittie and they just want to run? It's like they're galloping like a horse. Rusty was like that today. I wish I could've let her off leash. We both would've been better off. I could rest from the heat, and she could run her butt off without hauling me behind. Ha, ha..

What a pleasure!!!

Betty - A720129 - Rotteweiler Mix

Betty is a 2 year old and one month Rotteweiler Mix. She has been at the Animal Care & control Center in NYC since 7/23/07.

I didn't even know Betty was a rottie until I got back. She is only one of two rotties I have walked and she was such a sweetheart. I have to say that usually I don't take out rotties because they are a bit big for me, but you know what, sometimes what you don't know is good for you, because if I had looked to see that she was a rottie I wouldn't have had the pleasure of her company.

What a wonderful dog Betty is. Yes, she is big but she is a gentle giant. Would you believe that she just plopped down and exposed her belly for a rub? That picture of her laying on her back is all her. Then when we were on how way back she plopped down again. I waited for her, she got up, we walked two feet and then she plopped down. This went on for a while until the staff member had to help me get her back inside. Dogs are so smart. I wish more people realized that. She was just protesting. She didn't want to go back in. Can you blame her? Not me..

Betty is a great dog who loves hugs and kisses. She is waiting for her forever home.

Peaches - A722638 - Labrador Retriever Mix

Peaches is a one year old labrador retriever mix. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 8/6/07.

I don't know if she's a lab mix....

Anyway, Peaches was a pleasure. She walked easily by my side. She walked when I walked, stopped when I stopped. No problems. Wow!! She has such a calm easy energy about her. That's the only way I know how to describe it.

She's gorgeous.

Bernadette Peters / Pit Bulls

Today was an Amazing day. I had the honor of meeting a fellow pit bull advocate, Bernadette Peters.

I told her about the Kids for Pits Campaign and she was thrilled. She already was championing it at the event. She saw some children playing with Mr. Potatoe Head, the gray pit bull, and shouted out, "Nicole, kids with Pits, take a picture." I was absolutely thrilled. I also asked her if I could take a picture of her and Danny Boy, the white and black pit, for my website and she was happy to oblige.

We'll see where this takes the campaign. Not sure but only GOOD can come from it.

The pictures of the little girl are amazing. She justed walked up to Mr. Potatoe Head, he plopped down, and she started to pet him. What idiot said pit bulls are not good with children? Idiots.... I think we just proved they are wonderful with kids, even kids they don't know. Hopefully that little girl's family will adopt him. They were interested.

Diamond - A715830 - Pit Bull

Diamond is a 4 year old pit bull. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 7/19/07.

Diamond was owned for only 6 months. Not sure why they returned her but she is terrific. One of the young boys that is working there for the summer had her outside, so of course I took the opportunity to play with her and take a few shots of her.

She was so calm with this boy. She just hung out with him. He was feeding her treats. He would throw them in the air and she would jump and catch them. She's beautiful.

Roger - A721210 - Pit bull

Roger is a 1 year old pit bull. He has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 7/28/07.

Roger is beautiful. The minute I took him out he fell in line right by my side. Yippie!! What a relief... I love when they just walk by my side on their own. When I sat down he gladly sat down with me. He even jumped on the ledge for a photo opportunity with me. Look at that smile, only a pitty!!! I'm so honored :-D
