Stevie - A693222 - American Staffordshire Terrier

Stevie is an American Staffordshire Terrier. He has been at the Animal Care and Control Center in NYC since 1/20/07. He is 8 months old.

Stevie is a very affection dog. He loved my husband and was all over him. Everytime I took Stevie to walk with me and we passed my husband, he would stop and kiss him before moving forward with me :)

He walked well on the leash. His past owners clipped his ears. They plan of making him look feirce didn't work. He's a beauty and would make anyone a wonderful companion. He seemed well around other dogs. He wasn't anxious. He would look and when I started to walk, he would follow without a fuss.

Sue - A693333 - American Staffordshire Terrier

Sue is an American Staffordshire Terrier. Her age is unknown. She has been at the Animal Care and Control Center in NYC since 1/20/07.

Sue is a great dog. She just had pups. This is typical. The owner uses her to breed and then keeps the pups to sell and gives up the dog. Idiot!!

Anyway....Sue walked well on the leash. She enjoys being petted and loves massages. When she sees dogs she is anxious to go up to them and will tend to bark and whine a bit.

Sue is looking for a safe and loving home.

Coogie - A693101 - American Staffordshire Terrier

Update - 1/31/07 - Adopted :)

Coogie is an American Staffordshire Terrier and has been at the Animal Care and Control Center in NYC since 1/19/07. He is 3 years old. His owners surrendered him after 3 years because they have no more time for him. No comment...... :{

Anyway, it's really their lose. Coogie is amazing. He walks well on the leash, and if for some reason he gets ahead of you, he'll look back and wait til you catch up. He's always looking for direction. He just loves to slobber you with kisses. He's very athletic it seems, he jumped about 3 feet onto the fence. Once up there, he put his paws on my shoulders and kissed me to death. What a gentlemen :0

Coogie is a fabulous dog and could sure use a safe and loving home! Please adopt a pit bull!

Queenie - A693117 - Pit Bull Mix

Queenie is a pit bull mix. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 1/19/07. She is 3 years old.

Queenie is a very good girl. She sits when asked to, and if you sit down, she will gladly sit between your legs and rest. She enjoys being kissed and loved.

She limps on her left back hind leg. I'm not sure what happened, but even though she limps, she has a lot of energy and walks with the zest of any other dog. It didn't seem to bother her, so it didn't bother me.

I truly loved spending time with Queenie. Excellent !

Girlie - A693519 - Pit Bull Mix

Girlie is a pit bull mix. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center since 1/22/07. She is 6 months old and a bundle of energy.

Girlie seems a little dominant streak, but does listen when you tell her to sit or when you stop. She does pull a little, but she's so young, that can easily be done away with. Once in a safe and loving home, she will settle in nicely. She loves to give kisses.

Look at that face. She's beautiful!

Spot - A692805 - American Staffordshire Terrier

Spot is an American Staffordshire Terrier. He is 1 year old and has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 1/17/07

Spot barked incessantly every time I passed his cage. Of course we all know why. So I decided to take him out. Once out in the crisp cool air, he was calm and a joy to be with. Spot is a great little dog. He was great to walk and spend time with.

He loves to mark. And when another dog had the nerve to mark over his spot, he got upset. When the dog left, he ran over to re-mark his spot. A little territorial, it seems :)

Update 1/25/07 - Rest in Peace

Jack is a pit bull mix and has been at the Animal Care and Control Center in NYC since 1/19/07. He is 2 years old.

Jack is very thin. It seems they didn't feed him very well. Maybe they even tried to starve him. It looks very emaciated. But even so, he is great to be with. After a nice brisk walk he rested his legs gently on my lap. He loves to be loved and kissed. Jack is a bit sick. I think is coming down with Kennel cough or flu.

Jack is a doll.

Milly pulled the leash a bit. My arm is actually a little sore. She needs to get out of there.

Loca - A691925 - American Staffordshire Terrier

Update 1/25/07 - Rest in Peace

Update 1/24/07 - Loca is still available. She is healing nicely and needs a safe and loving home. Great Dog. Please go see her :)

Loca is a 2 year old American Staffordshire Terrier. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center since 1/9/06.

When I first passed Loca's cage she scared me, I have to admit. She was very unruly. She would jump about 2 feet off the ground and bark. She is also scarred from flees. She had just come up from the sick ward. They took care of her wounds from the flees.

I passed her by, but as I was about to leave I passed her cage again. She jumped and barked. I asked the staff, "Is she aggressive?" He said, "No, not at all. She just wants your attention to take her out." I said okay and I decided to take the plunge and find out for myself.

I am so happy I did. The minute she got out the cage she walked right beside me. She didn't even run to get out like most dogs do. She walked beautifully on the leash, although she did walk in front of me and pull a little but not too much. When we sat down, she licked and cuddled, and licked and nestled up to us and loved us. She calmed down and was so different than she was in the cage. I wish I could take her home. I was so sad to leave her there. When we put her back she whined and looked at us like, "Where are you going? I thought you were going to take me home?"

I didn't look back, I couldn't.... But I am grateful that at least I spent some time with her and gave her some fresh air and much needed affection and exercise. She's amazing. If you are looking for an affection, loving dog..Loca is your gal.

Speedy - A692254 - Pit Bull

Speedy is a 4 month old pit bull. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 1/11/07.

Speedy was incredible! Of course the little bugger pulled like crazy. She had so much energy. There was another dog around so I waited to let go of the leash. Once I did, she followed me around. No more pulling...there was no reason to. I ran back and forth with her and wore her out, not to mention myself. But it didn't last very long :( I decided to play hide and go seek with her. I hid behind a small fenced in sky light and she saw me through the wires and would run around to get me, then I would move again. Finally I would let her catch me and she was so proud of herself.

We played with her for about a half hour. It was so much fun :) It tears me up to think that Peter Vallone Jr. wants to ban pit bulls from NYC. We can't let him do this. Speak out, if you want to know how, just contact me. Pit Bulls Rule !!

Speedy needs a lot of exercise and a loving family to take her home.

Lydig - A691790 -Pit Bull Mix

Lydig is a 9 month old Pit bull Mix. She has been at the Animal Care and Control Center in NYC since 1/8/07.

Lydig was very excited. She pulled and pulled. It took us a while to get her to walk by our side. But after a rigorous walk around the roof she was more than happy to hang out with us.

The key with shelter volunteering is when you get them out of the cage, just walk as much as you can, burn off some of that energy and then they'll be in a better place and happy to love you :)

Susie is a 2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center since 1/6/07.

Susie was a dream to walk. Extremely calm and walked by our side. No pulling. This is a plus. She enjoys being petted. The hat was my husband's idea :) She looks like a french chef.

Susie is very loving. If you are looking for a calm dog she is it.

Maximus - #A692137 - American Pit Bull Terrier

Update 1/25/07 - Adopted :-D

Update 1/24/07 - Maximus is still available. He has just been neutered. He still has a lot of energy and loves.... and I mean loves .... to play. Even with that thing around his neck he still managed to get a hold of the leash. He even somehow got that round thing off of his head. He's a really funny dog. His past owners must have played tug of war a lot with him :)

Maximus is a 3 year old American Pit Bull Terrier. He has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 1/11/07.

What an amazing dog! He was very quiet in his cage and walked well outside. He listens well and sits on command. I have to say that he is very playful and slick. He wanted so much to play and tug on the leash. When he started to tug I would tell him "No" and to "sit." He did, but then when I turned my back to walk, he would make a grab for the rope. We repeated this for the entire day. He's hilarious. He finally got the best of me, though and pulled and pulled. I dropped the rope and he stopped playing with it. I grabbed it again and he was okay. The great thing is that he listened.

Maximus deserves a loving and caring home. And to be with someone who likes to play.

Teddy - A691340 - American Staffordshire Terrier

Teddy is an American Staffordshire Terrier. He is 9 months old and has been at the Animal Care & Control Center since 1/4/07.

Teddy is amazing. When I first approached his cage he was lying down. I petted him and he pressed his whole body against the cage bars like a cat :) He even layed down for me to try and reach his belly.

When I took him out I realized he was big and strong. He sniffed about and pulled me. I have to admit I felt a little intimidated but I mustered up my courage to take back control. After I showed him who was in charge he was fabulous. He just needed to know. He wanted so much to play so I got him to run and jump on the bench and then off again. I could feel his joy at being able to release that pinned up energy. He started to tug on the leash. Boy, is in strong. It's pretty scary when dogs start playing tug o' war but I remained calm. He was better at the game than I was. Anyway, he let go of the leash and I took it back. Yeah.

We also gave him some treats for being good. He laid down and we patted his belly.

Teddy is a fabulous dog and would train extremely well. He needs lots of love and affection and a strong leader.

Rex - A690582 - Beagle

Rex ia a 9 year old male beagle. He has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 12/28/06.

Rex is a very timid dog. He shakes a lot and hesitates. We walked him out on the roof and it was challenging to get him to walk. After he got use to us, he walked with more ease but still was a little reluctant.

Rex is great for someone who is looking for a calm, older dog who just wants to relax.

If you are interested in adding Rex to your loving family visit the Animal Care & Control Center website or call 212.788.4000 and give them his special A#.
