Georgia - A722723 - Labrador / German Shepherd Mix

Georgia is an eight month old labrador / german shepherd mix. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 8/7/07.

Boy, what an energetic little pup. The minute I took her out she ran for dear life. Wow!!! When we got outside, she kept going. You know, if it were just a little bit cooler I wouldn't have minded so much, but in 85 degree weather???? Anyway, I still enjoyed myself. Eventually, and I mean eventually, she calmed down. When she did get all that pinned up energy out, she was much calmer and walked somewhat by my side. What a sweetie!!

Peaches - A722638 - Labrador Retriever Mix

Peaches is a one year old labrador retriever mix. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 8/6/07.

I don't know if she's a lab mix....

Anyway, Peaches was a pleasure. She walked easily by my side. She walked when I walked, stopped when I stopped. No problems. Wow!! She has such a calm easy energy about her. That's the only way I know how to describe it.

She's gorgeous.

Mayla - A576155 - Labrador Pit Mix

Mayla is a 3 year old Labrador and Pit Mix. She has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 5/11/07.

Mayla is such a beautiful dog. When I first met Mayla she was growling at me in her cage with tail between her legs. She even managed to show a few teeth, so I pulled a Cesar. I put my back to the cage and let her sniff me. She stood up and sniffed, still shaking. Then I turned around and she rubbed her body against the cage for me to touch her. She then put her head against the bars, I put my hands through and massaged her, and kissed her forehead.

It's such a shame what these dogs go through. She came from a well-balanced home, was obviously well taken care of and in great health. But her owners had to give her up because their landlord did not want the dog in the building anymore. Now because of this, who knows what will happen to her. Such a fine dog....

Mayla obviously gets along with other dogs. She was flirting with Brooklyn below. She did the play bow and then laid down, patiently waiting for him to come closer. It was amazing to watch. Us ladies can learn a thing or two from Mayla :) Unfortunately, we couldn't let them get too close. Those are the rules at the shelter.

Rocky - A707638 - Labrador Mix

Rocky is a 1 year old labrador mix. He has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 5/7/07.

Rocky was hanging out with one of the other volunteers while I was there, so I decided to make my way over to him. Wonderful dog. Very energetic and playful. Sweet as can be. It was a pleasure watching him and the volunteer enjoy eachother's company.

Walton - A685417 - Labrador Retriever Mix

Walton is a labrador retriever mix and is 3 years old. He has been at the Animal Care & Control Center in NYC since 11/14/06.

Walton is a great dog. He walks extremely well on the leash and is very calm. He gets along with other dogs very well. Him and Coco, above, hit it off quickly and enjoyed each other's company.

Zion - A659701 - Labrador Retriever Mix

Zion is a Labrador Retriever Mix. He is 7 months old and is at the Animal Care and Control Center in NYC.

Zion is a great dog. He likes to pull the leash but if you show him that you want him to walk by your side he will do so. All I did was stop when he pulled and he would walk back to my side and wait til I walked. This is an easy, effective and "pain-free" way to get your dog not to pull. You may have to do it several times but eventually they get the hint :)

Dutch #A655894 - Labrador Retriever / Pitbull Mix

Dutch is a 1 year and 1 month old Labrador Retriever / Pitbull mix. He is at the Animal Care & Control Center in Manhattan and was brought in today. He was returned by his owner.

It escapes me why Dutch was returned because I had a wonderful time with him today. He walked by my side and did not pull the leash. This is rare! He is extremely playful and gets a long well with other dogs.

He is a lucky dog too because today he was one of the dogs chosen to be in the New York Daily News photo shoot and I had the honor of walking him. Their were three of us and four dogs. They were all so excited to play with each other in the grass and near the water. The photographer, Linda, was patient and understanding. It can be challenging to photograph dogs that are young, energetic and so thrilled to be outdoors :)

I'm not sure when the article is coming of but I'll keep you posted.

Jada #A677606 - a Labrador Mix

Jada is a 11 month old labrador mix. She is at the Animal Care & Control Center in Manhattan and has been there since yesterday. The owner surrendered her because their building does not allow pets.....

Anyway, Jada is very intelligent. She walks by your side and if you run she will do the same. Very obedient and playful. Outstanding dog :)

Puppy #A677601 - A labrador retriever mix

Puppy is a four month old labrador retriever mix. He is at the Animal Care & Control Center in Manhattan. The owner gave him up because they had too many pets. What's that all about?

Anyway, I took Puppy out today and he is a dream. He needs a lot of attention and loves to play. He walks by your side and always looks up at you. When I sat down with him he stayed but he got a little anxious because he wanted to play some more.
